These Are The London Restaurants SORTEDfood Are Visiting Post Lockdown

It's been a long few months of fending for ourselves in the kitchen department, with the occasional (or slightly more than occasional) takeaway to lift the spirits. But let's face it, not much beats going out and eating in the comfort of someone else's restaurant. The hustle and bustle of a busy spot, the incredible interiors, the joy of devouring a meal you just wouldn't be able to make at home... It's a great feeling.

With lockdown restrictions on indoor dining easing this week in the UK, we asked some of the SORTEDfood team where they’ll be heading to celebrate! How many of these do you agree with?

Inko Nito, Soho (££)

Super modern and super cool, Inko Nito is a celebration of unconventional Japanese cuisine. It’s a fantastic place to get to grips with sashimi, maki, sharing plates and BBQ. Sit up on the high stools overlooking the fire pits and chefs, or get amongst it on one of the large tables.

Angelina, Dalston (£££)

Angelina’s USP is the unlikely fusion of Italian and Japanese cuisine - and it works! The food is creative and imaginative and the intimate ambiance is perfect for easing yourself back into the restaurant scene after a lockdown. A certain SORTEDfood chef is particularly excited about the £54 10-course tasting menu…

Mother Mash, Soho (£)

A proper British pie & mash shop in a traditional East End caff - except it’s actually in Carnaby Street. The grub is simple but effective with a fun mix and match menu. Choose from a range of gourmet sausages and pies, then pair with your mash and gravy of choice. This is comfort food done good.

Circolo Populare, Fitzrovia (£££)

It doesn’t get more glam ‘n’ glitzy than Circolo Populare. With delightfully OTT dishes inspired by Sicilian and Mediterranean cuisine served up in a big white room adorned with lights and bottles of booze, it certainly makes an impact. Get involved with the epic pizzas and pastas. Based further east? Try Gloria, from the same team but located in Shoreditch.

Pachamama East, Shoreditch (££)

This Peruvian-inspired spot serves up incredible dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Their menu is split by soil, sea and land so you can get a taste of anything and everything. Couple that with a killer cocktail menu and a chilled atmosphere and you'll never want to leave! You can also head to the original Pachamama in Marylebone.

Blacklock, Soho (££)

Set in the basement of an old brothel in the heart of Soho, it’s fair to say that the Blacklock chophouse is a pretty atmospheric place to eat! Dig into incredible food from the grill or sample some of their small plates - all their meat is grass-fed and guaranteed great quality, and it’s unbeatable value for money.

The Mayfair Chippy, Mayfair (££)

This Mayfair establishment brings the seaside to the city with a menu inspired by your classic fish and chips. Enjoy all the faves from the usual takeout menu, as well as some swanky additions like the soft shell crab burger. Who knew you could feel like you’re by the sea when you’re in Central London?

Brasserie Zédel, Piccadilly (££)

This French art deco brasserie, located bang in the middle of Piccadilly, is a constant on must-visit lists in London. And for good reason! The stunning 1930s grandeur of the interior is the perfect antidote to months spent at home staring at the same four walls, and the excellent French dishes such as beef bourguignon, steak tartare and duck confit are not to be missed.

Emilia's Crafted Pasta, St Katharine Docks (££)

You’ll find this cosy, authentic pasta restaurant tucked away in the beautiful St Katharine Docks. The Emilia's family are waiting to load up your table with antipasti, steaming bowls of handcrafted pasta and mega-indulgent desserts. Probably one of the best pasta joints in London.

The Compton Arms, Islington (££)

You always need a pub on one of these foodie lists don’t you? This one comes with plenty of literary clout too - The Compton Arms was one of George Orwell’s London favourites. It’s cosy and classy and it offers maybe the best burger in London, courtesy of the Four Legs cheffing duo. Bonus points for the great local pub vibes.
