Are you even a food media channel if you don't get into TikTok food trends? We think not. Since last year we’ve been putting some of the most popular TikTok trends to the test to find out if they’re worth trying at home. We’ve even had our chefs giving ‘em a go and upgrading them with our own SORTEDfood twists!

So what’s the verdict? Here are our top TikTok trends.

1. Baked Feta Pasta

The baked feta pasta trend has been taking over the internet for the past few months now... so obviously we’ve only just tried it. It turns out it’s popular for good reason! It’s super simple, super flavoursome and you do it all in the one pan, so it’s super low on washing-up too. Plus you’re left with a pretty unbeatable creamy pasta sauce.

We put our own twist on the trend by trading out the Italian herbs for tangy, lemony sumac instead.

2. Hot Chocolate Bombs

Chocolate spheres filled with hot chocolate and marshmallows? Yes please. Luckily that’s the order of the day with these indulgent hot chocolate bombs! We took ours one step further by giving the drinking chocolate a kick of espresso martini.

Pour hot milk over the top of your chocolate spheres for an epic chocolate-marshmallow explosion. It’s a little bit more complex than your average TikTok trend, but the result is a rich and delicious drink that’s perfect for any chocoholic!

3. Dalgona Coffee

Perhaps the OG TikTok food trend, Dalgona coffee was to 2020 what Baked Feta Pasta is to 2021. The trend went viral during the first coronavirus lockdown when people across the world started trying the South Korean coffee drink for themselves.

Like all good TikTok trends, it uses just a handful of ingredients - whisk together some instant coffee, sugar and hot water, and pour it on top of your iced milk. Delicious coffee froth and minimal effort? We like it.

4. Pancake Cereal

Pancake cereal does exactly what it says on the tin. Teeny tiny pancakes served up in a bowl with milk just like cereal! And it makes for a pretty fun dish. Make your job easier by using a squeezy bottle and not attempting too many pancakes at once.

We put a cheffy twist on this one by transforming the milk into a buttermilk panna cotta, then topping it with the tiny pancakes as well as cornflake caramel, maple syrup and berries - plus loads of bourbon of course!

5. Flamin’ Hot Cheeto Mozzarella Sticks

A TikTok food trend that covers pretty much everything you want from an internet snack! These oozing mozzarella sticks are made with your basic snacking ingredients, and you can mix ‘em up depending on what you’ve got in the cupboard.  We tried Cheestrings in ours and switched it up with Wotsits and smoky bacon crisps as well as the Cheetos. The result? An unbelievable cheese pull with a crispy crunch - what could be better?!

6. Egg Sandwich

White bread, egg, plastic cheese. It sounds simple, but it’s SO effective! We love the egg sandwich for the fun, cool technique! Top tips for nailing your flip? Get your spatula under one slice of bread and grab the pan with the other. Then flip it as quickly as possible. We upgraded ours with a spicy nduja and fresh basil, but you could experiment with adding loads of different fillings to your sandwich.
