Recipe: Patty Melt

PATTY MELT

Why do burgers always have to be in a bun? Good question. We present the burger sandwich. Genius. Invite this into your life next time you're craving a burger but only have the funds and the time to cook a grilled cheese! This recipe provides the tastiest patty you ever did eat. And we're firm believers that burger sauce should not be missed out of any burger recipe. You've got it all in one! Hooray!

Ingredients

  • 2 brown onions
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 400 g minced beef
  • 50 g cold beef dripping
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp american mustard
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 6 sun-dried tomatoes
  • 4 slices monterey jack cheese
  • 4 slices swiss cheese
  • 4 gherkin spears to serve

Step 1

Cook The Onions

Heat the olive oil in a saucepan or frying pan and put it over a medium-high heat. Peel and thinly slice the onions, then add the slices to the pan. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring regularly, then turn the heat down to medium-low and cook for another 30 minutes, stirring regularly.

Step 2

Make The Patties

Chop the beef dripping and mix it through the beef by hand Mould the burgers into the shape of the bread slices. Cook the burgers in a dry frying pan over a high heat for 4 minutes on each side, until they’re almost cooked through.

Step 3

Make The Burger Sauce

Combine the mayo, ketchup and mustard in a bowl to make burger sauce.

Step 4

Assemble Your Melt

Spread the butter over both sides of the bread slices. spread the burger sauce over the inside of each slice. Pile the onions onto each slice, followed by some chopped sundriedtomatoes and a couple of slices of monterey jack cheese on one side and swiss cheese on the other side of each sandwich.

Step 5

Grill And Serve

Now add the burger on top of one slice and carefully place the other slice on top. Press it down. Heat a dry frying pan over a medium heat, then place the two sandwiches into the pan. Cook for 5 minutes, until the bread is an even, golden brown. Flip and repeat on the other side, until the cheese is melted. Serves 2
