Recipe: Nutella Buttercream Frosting

Creamy, fluffy, sweet nutella buttercream frosting. Pipe it onto cupcakes, slather it onto a cake or -- you know pipe it right into your mouth?

  • 2 cup Butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup Nutella, room temperature
  • 4-6 cup Confectioner's Sugar
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 cup Heavy Whipping Cream, chilled

Step 1

Cream the butter on high for 5 - 10 minutes until pale and fluffy. Add the nutella and cream for 2 minutes until fully combined! Add in the vanilla and mix until the vanilla disappears.

Oh Sugar, Sugar!

Step 2

Oh Sugar, Sugar!

Add the powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time until the frosting holds it's shape. To test this lift the beaters up. If the icing falls off it's too thin and won't work for piping. If it's thick and clings onto the beaters and holds it's shape -- you're ready! It may be anywhere between 4-6 cups depending on the type of butter you use and humidity. So have extra handy :)

Whip it!

Step 3

Whip It!

Last -- add that cold whipping cream! Mix until the frosting changes in texture and becomes very fluffy. DO not over mix at this point. This should only take 1 or 2 minutes. If using right away then just pipe/frost as you normally would a cake/cupcakes. If storing it in the fridge keep it in an airtight container and let it come to room temperature before using it. If it's too clumpy whip it back into shape before using out of the fridge :)
