Recipe: The Original Chocolate Cake In A Mug


Baking a chocolate pudding can conjure up images of effort, time and mess... This no-bake recipe can be ready in minutes, creates no mess and is the perfect snack to snuggle up to in front of the TV on cold winter evenings. That's cake in a mug SORTED!


  • 2 tbsp self raising flour
  • 2 tbsp caster sugar
  • 1 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 tsp instant coffee powder
  • 1 small egg
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 3 choc buttons
Grab the Dry Ingredients

Grab a large mug. Spoon the dry ingredients into the mug and mix well.

Add the Egg

Crack in the egg and whisk to combine with a fork.

Add the Milk & Choc Buttons

Drizzle in the milk and oil and stir. Drop in a few choc buttons.

Microwave It!

Place into a microwave and cook for 2 ½ mins on full power.

Serve Up!

Leave to rest for 1 minute then eat with lashings of cream or ice cream. Makes 1 large pudding... a generous dessert or ample to share



Loved this recipe, made it for breakfast and added some melted chocolate on top.


Got hungry around 11:00 at night! Sorted Guy's recipe is the best!


Try dropping a chunk of chunky peanut butter in the middle before putting it into the microwave... that in combination with the chocolate chips is heaven.


Hey Sorted! Started making this and realized I don't have eggs. So I substituted eggs for 1tsp baking powder 1tbsp water and 1tbsp oil. Works wonders. XM
