Recipe: Flavoured Popcorn


If you're staying in to watch a film, alone or with your mates, why not treat yourself to some gourmet popcorn. Not all popcorn has to be sweet either... why not go hardcore and cook up some curried popcorn, sushi popcorn or honey and mustard to go alongside your favourite peanut butter variety!


Honey And Mustard Popcorn

  • 1 tbsp runny honey
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp veg oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 40 g popcorn kernels, popped

Curried Popcorn

  • 20 g ghee
  • 1 handful of cashew nuts
  • 1 handful of sultanas
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp caster sugar
  • 40 g popcorn kernels, popped
  • 1 small bunch of fresh coriander

Sushi Popcorn

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 sheet of nori seaweed
  • 1 tbsp veg oil
  • 40 g popcorn kernels, popped
  • 1 tbsp black sesame seeds

Peanut Butter Popcorn

  • 120 g crunchy peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp coloured sugar strands

Step 1

Honey And Mustard

Simple whisk together the mustard, honey, oil and salt in a bowl. Tip in your freshly popped, warm popcorn and toss it all together before tucking in.

Sushi popcorn

Sushi Popcorn

Finely slice and shred the nori sheet and whisk into the sesame oil, soy sauce, miring and rice wine vinegar. Toss the freshly popped and warm popcorn into the mixture adding in a handful of black sesame seeds, the serve immediately as this type is more likely to go soggy quicker.

Peanut Butter Popcorn

Warm the peanut butter and golden syrup up in a pan until just bubbling. Take care that it doesn't catch and burn on the bottom of the pan. Using tongs toss the freshly popped and warm popcorn into the peanut butter mixture and sprinkle with colourful sugar strands.

Curried Popcorn

Step 4

Curried Popcorn

Fry the cashews in the ghee for a minute or two until they start to turn golden. Add the sultanas, curry powder, salt and sugar then toss into the freshly popped warm popcorn. Finish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
