FOOL'S GOLD LOAF

This sandwich was rumoured to be the King of Rock 'n' Roll's absolute favourite. He once boarded a 3 hour flight to Denver just to eat the sandwich with friends before returning home. We figured if it was that good, we should give it a go for another musical legend we know... Chester See! Except our version is a little neater, with multiple layers of bread, peanut butter and Jelly.

INGREDIENTS

STEP-BY-STEP-GUIDE

PREHEAT THE OVEN

Preheat an oven to 200°C.

COOK THE BACON

Lay the strips of bacon out onto a baking tray and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden and crispy, then cool.

REMOVE THE CRUSTS

Cut the crusts off of the sliced sandwich loaf. Roll each fluffy slice as thin as possible with a rolling pin.

ADD FILLING

Spread half of the slices with a layer of peanut butter and the other half with the jam. Crumble the crispy cooled bacon into smaller pieces. Scatter a layer over the jam.

REMOVE INNER BREAD

Slice the top off of the larger loaf and cut a pocket the same size as the sliced bread. Scoop out the inner bread.

LAYER!

Layer the peanut butter and jam spread slices alternately, pressing down each time to keep them compact. Replace the lid to the bread.

STORE UNDER A HEAVY WEIGHT

Wrap in clingfilm and store in the fridge for at least a few hours under a heavy weight. Slice into small pieces to serve.
