Recipe: Ramen Noodle Burger

Who's heard of them? If you keep yourself up to date with all the latest food crazes then you'll know that the perfect fusion of 'east meets west' is an odd one to get your head around... and yet it works! Straight out of a Brooklyn food market, started by Keizo Shimamoto it's the result of Japanese and American food culture colliding... and it tastes pretty damn good! What other food crazes should we be cooking up?
Ingredients
- 100 g instant Ramen noodles
- 2 eggs
- 200 g minced beef
- 2 spring onions
- 1 splash soy sauce
- 1 drizzle sesame oil
- 1 pak choi
- 1 squeeze tomato ketchup
- 1 dollop hot chilli & ginger sauce
- 1 slice American cheese
- 1 shot oil

Step 1
Make The Noodles
Boil the noodles in salted water according to packet instructions, although without the seasoning. Drain and leave to cool slightly for a minute Crack an egg into a bowl and beat together.

Step 2
Shape The Noodles
Toss the noodles into the beaten egg, divide in two and press each half into a clingfilm lined mould the same size as you want your burgers (10-12cm across). Fold the clingfilm back over the noodles and place a weight on top to compress as they cool.

Step 3
Make The Burger Patties
Slice the spring onions and mix into the beef with the noodle seasoning, soy sauce and sesame oil. Form two burger patties, a similar size to your buns, keeping them pretty thin.

Step 4
Fry The Burgers
Heat up 3 frying pans. Fry the burgers in one pan with a shot of oil for a minute or so on each side.

Step 5
Fry The Buns
Remove the set ramen burger buns from the clingfilm and fry in a shot of oil in the second pan for 2 minutes on each side so that they go golden and crispy.

Step 6
Fry The Egg
Crack the egg into the third pan and fry.

Step 7
Make The Ketchup
Mix together the ketchup and hot sauce and adjust to suit your taste.

Step 8
Steam The Pak Choi
Wash and quarter the pak choi and steam very quickly in a pan with a dash of water.

Step 9
Construct Your Burger
Drain all the frying greasy items on kitchen paper and construct your Ramen burger with a slice of cheese on top of each burger pattie.
