Recipe: Homemade Protein Bars
Mike leads an active lifestyle and is trying to bulk up at the moment. He needs all the protein he can get and few more calories a day than the average guy. He moans about spending loads of money on protein bars/shakes and that, although they do the job, they taste awful. So we've come up with our own recipe to keep him happy.
- 125 g whey protein (or any protein)
- 175 g oats
- 225 g ground almonds
- 25 g soft brown sugar
- 1 pinch sea salt flakes
- 25 g pecan nuts
- 25 g pumpkin seeds
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 40 ml coconut oil
- 200 ml whole milk
- 2-3 drops vanilla extract
- 75 g peanut butter
- 200 g dark chocolate (85-90%)
Mix The Dry Ingredients
Chuck the protein powder, oats, ground almonds, sugar and sea salt into a large bowl. Chop the pecan nuts and pumpkin seeds roughly and add them to the bowl with the sesame seeds.
Add The Wet Ingredients
Combine the milk, coconut oil, vanilla extract and peanut butter and pour them into the dry ingredients. Mix to a malleable dough.
Push Into Mould
Squish the dough into a square silicon mould.
Melt The Chocolate
Break the chocolate into a microwavable bowl and melt in the microwave or over boiling water on the hob.
Drizzle The Chocolate
Drizzle the chocolate over the protein bar in the mould and place into the fridge to set.
Cut To Size
Cut to size, we recommend 8/10 bars, and grab a bar whenever you need one on the go!
Makes 8-10 (depending on your personal goals)
