Community Recipe: Cauliflower Cheese Bake!

Apparently it’s National Sausage Week in the UK (ikr?) therefore I made a sausage recipe. Whether Pork, Beef or even Turkey; sausages are a great, cheap, student essential. This recipe combines that with a cheese roux similar to a cauliflower bake Sorted made a long time ago: the twist being the breadcrumb bake on top.

Ingredients

  • 1 Handful Grated Chilli Cheddar
  • 250 ml Skimmed Milk
  • 6 Sausages
  • 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs
  • 100 g Wholemeal Flour
  • 2 Cloves Garlic
  • 1 Head Cauliflower
  • 1 Head Brocoli
  • 1 Handful Grated Mozzarella
  • 100 g Margarine
  • 1 Bunch Basil

Start by prepping your veg. Prick your sausages (I went for leek sausages but only because I couldn’t find chorizo flavoured) and then broil/ grill, flipping onto each side until golden brown.

Dry fry your Broccoli, Cauliflower and Garlic to give the florets some colour.

Make your Roux!

Mix your Flour and Margarine to make a paste. Add milk to create a thick creamy sauce. Season with Pepper before adding all your Mozzarella and a quarter of your Cheddar.

Layer!

Mix together your Veg, Sausage, and Sauce. Layer up the other half of your Sausage. Mix together your Chopped Basil, Panko, and the rest of your Cheddar before layering on top and baking at 200 Degrees Celsius for 20 minutes and then broiling/ grilling for 10 minutes to get a great golden top.

Serve!

Serve Garnished with Basil and enjoy. Beyond the Roux this was a pretty clean. Serve up this was a great centre peice. Give this a go and let me know how you get on.
