DIRTY DOUGHNUT FRIES

Feast your eyes and your mouth on these naughty bad boys. You have never had doughnuts like them. (Pssst like to vote for me.)

MEASURE AND MIX

Measure the flour, yeast, sugar and salt into a bowl and mix well. Add the milk, vanilla extract, melted butter and egg to the bowl and using your hands mix it until it forms a ball.

KNEAD THE DOUGH

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for about 5 minutes until you have a smooth dough…. This can be done in a mixer if you have one.

PROVE THE DOUGH

CUT THE DOUGH

Remove the dough from the bowl, cut it in half and roll it out into a flat rectangle. Slice the dough into fingers about 10cm long. Place on a lightly floured tray with plenty of space between each finger and cover loosely with a tea towel. Leave to stand for about 20-30 minutes until puffy.

FRY!

Heat the oil in a deep fat fryer or saucepan to 165°C. Fry in small batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden. Remove carefully and place on kitchen paper to allow the excess oil to drain off, then tip them onto a big plate.

COOK THE BACON

Preheat an oven to 180ºC. Place the bacon onto a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper and cook for 10 minutes.

HEAT THE BUTTER

Meanwhile the butter in a pan over a medium heat. When it’s bubbling keep an eye on it until it starts to go a deep golden brown. Pour the butter over the doughnut fries, then roughly crumble the bacon over.

POUR OVER THE GOODIES

Add the chocolate chips and drizzle the maple syrup, caramel sauce and chocolate sauce. Tuck in whilst they’re still warm if you can. Makes 24
