Recipe: Chocolate Peanut Butter Deathly Hallows

CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER DEATHLY HALLOWS

I may have usurped Ben from the title Super Geek with this brownie/cookie homage to one of the most popular stories of our generation. Contrasting soft, fudgy brownie with a chewy peanut butter cookie, this recipe is the perfect dessert without being too sweet. You won't have any trouble destroying these Deathly Hallows!

Ingredients

  • 4 room temp. eggs
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup melted but cooled unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 cup cocoa powder (I used dark chocolate cocoa powder for a deeper flavor)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup peanut butter (smooth or chunky to your preference)
  • 1/2 cup room temp. unsalted butter
  • 1 room temp. egg
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips for decoration

Step 1

The Brownie

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour a 13''x9'' pan. Beat your four eggs until fluffy. Add 1 cup each of white and brown sugar and beat until incorporated. Scrape the sides of your bowl before adding your melted butter and vanilla extract. Fold in your cocoa powder, 1/2 cup flour, and 1/2 teaspoon salt until just combined. Pour the batter into your pan and bake for 40 minutes. If the brownie isn't quite done yet, it's okay. Remove from the oven and set aside.

Step 2

The Peanut Butter Cookies

Raise the temperature of your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, beat together your peanut butter and softened unsalted butter. Then beat in your 1/2 cup each of white and brown sugar before beating in your egg. In a medium bowl, combine your 1 1/2 cup flour, baking powder, baking soda, and 1/8 teaspoon salt. Slowly mix it in to your wet batter until just combined. On a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, place 1 teaspoon balls of cookie dough leaving space for them to expand and bake for 12 minutes. Remove the cookies from the oven and let cool.

The Assembling of the Deathly Hallows

Step 3

The Assembling Of The Deathly Hallows

This is where your faith is restored that you're not a dark wizard like he who must not be named... Or that these won't come out perfect but it's all going to be fine. Place a cookie on your brownie pan with enough space for you to cut a triangle out of the brownie with the cookie still sitting inside. Etch that triangle out with a knife. If your cookie doesn't want to sit, stick one of your chocolate chips tip-side down into the brownie and place your cookie atop the smooth side. Repeat with the rest of the brownies (You'll have plenty of leftover cookies and some leftover brownie pieces. Aw yeah), and you should have about 8 Deathly Hallows laid out. Carefully place your chocolate chips down the middle over the brownie and cookie so that it makes a line. Place your pan back in the oven for about two minutes - or until the chocolate chips start to melt. If your brownie wasn't quite done earlier, this should finish it off. Remove and let the chocolate set before cutting your triangles out completely and using a spatula to remove them from the pan.
