Recipe: Belgian Yeasted Waffles


This may or may not have been my dinner tonight #yolo - so yum and super easy - topped with vanilla ice cream strawberries and dusted with icing sugar N.B. Waffle iron/maker required Makes around 4 waffles


  • ⅛ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 strawberries
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • ¾ tsp yeast
  • 1 tbsp raw sugar
  • icing sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 42 g butter, melted

Step 1

Mix together your yeast and flour in a large bowl. Add in remaining ingredients except for milk - don't mix just yet. Heat milk either in microwave or on a stovetop until lukewarm (around body temp when you stick your finger in it). Add milk to mixture and stir well until just combined. Cover with plastic wrap and allow to prove for 1 hour.

Step 2

Waffles can either be made straight away or left in fridge overnight. Heat waffle maker and spray with oil. Place around 2 heaped tablespoons of mixture into waffle grid and spread around quickly. Close lid and cook for a few minutes. Open and check every minute or so until cooked. You may have to flip. While waffle is cooking slice your strawberries.

Step 3

Serve on a warm plate with some ice cream and top with your strawberries. Dust with icing sugar and eat!
