4 Super Quick Ways To Ice Cupcakes

16th June 2016

An afternoon well spent!

Today is #cupcakeday! What better way to celebrate than scroll through pictures of amazing cupcakes on Pinterest and fail miserably to re-create them?

So without further ado, here are some of the, frankly iconic, cupcakes that we created at SORTEDfood HQ…

THE COOKIE MONSTER – by Abbie

CookieMonster1

Ok on first glance this looked like a pretty easy one to recreate. I used a simple buttercream with blue food colouring then piped it to make fur. The eyes are two mini marshmallows then, a cheeky chocolate chip cookie in his mouth! He does look a little confused about life but he tasted delicious!

THE BANOFFEE BONANZA – by Hannah

BANOFFEE1

I took inspiration from the frankly outstanding Banoffee trifle I made recently. Then I took it a step further and added caramel to the buttercream To top it all off, a sprinkle of sea salt on top. If your caramel’s not salted caramel then what really is the point?

THE AMAZING AVO – by Ben

Avocado1

When you want something sweet but you also want to feel like a healthy hipster, put avocado on it! In this instance, that avocado may have been mixed with a block of butter and a tonne of icing sugar but hey, there’s no judgement here!

THE HONEYCOMB – by Rachel

Crunchy1
So, I thought I’d try piping the buttercream. The most important step here is to forget to put the nozzle in the piping bag until you’ve already spooned in your buttercream. Then you can get really artistic piping without all that annoying intricate texture… When you’re really happy with the piping cover it all with crunched up honeycomb to add height and texture.

Are you guys making cupcakes today? Make sure you tag your pictures with #sortedfood and #cupcakeday so the world can wonder at your piping prowess!
