Freshen up your food with florals!
I’m going to share with you some of my top tips for making food look gorgeous. As they say ‘you eat with your eyes’. You may have noticed on my Instagram feed that I use a lot of flowers to decorate my food because I just love how pretty they look and how they seem to pop out of the screen.
Here’s a little bit about what flowers you can use to change up your food presentation, plus, you can eat them as well. Yes, really!
These beautiful, colourful little flowers in a range of gorgeous colours. In season from Match to September in the UK. The scent of these beautiful flowers means that they work really well in sweet desserts or light savoury dishes like a souffle.
These flowers have a sweet and peppery taste in a range of golden colours. As these have a stronger flavour than most edible flowers, they are better used in dishes in the place of mustard and pepper flavours.
These stunning blue or white little flowers. They are amazing in salads and make a great addition to drinks, especially summer cocktails.
Extra tips for a standout Instagram pic:
Daylight – I can’t emphasise this enough, natural daylight makes all the difference. In the winter I use a daylight lamp which works really well.
Frame your photo – I love using flowers, fruit and other pretty things which contrast nicely with the food. You should also give a bit of extra thought to the plate or dish you are using to frame the main dish.
The use of colour – I tend to pick a side between really colourful images or focusing a couple of key colours works the best. The main thing is to keep the theme clear and not to overwhelm your audience.
