We all lose our heads when it comes to Burgers and we really do believe that at SORTEDfood, we’ve mastered exactly what it means to construct the ultimate one. But it has been a while since the Burger Quest days and we’re feeling that life’s getting a bit stagnant.

We want to pump it up a bit! So we asked you guys to tell us the best toppings and in response, we got a few rogue answers. These are the 12 top ones. What do you think? Yay or nay? Would you use any of them if you were building your own burger?

1. POACHED EGG

Fried eggs are usually the norm on a burger, but if you want to guarantee the real food porn popping moment, you should consider a poachie instead. The yolk will ooze and dribble down the side. Lush.

2. PEANUT BUTTER

We debated this at length and the results were that yes, definitely on a chicken burger but on a beef burger? Why the hell not. Give it a go by spreading some on the bun.

3. MAPLE SYRUP

We know that maple goes nicely with bacon. So it only makes sense that a maple syrup-beef burger combination would work too. Perhaps a bit too sweet? Be sparing as you lather it on.

4. PINEAPPLE

If you like pina colada then it’s most likely you’ll be a fan of adding pineapple to your burger a la Hawaiian style.

5. BEETROOT

This suggestion came from down under! For Ozzies and Kiwis, beetroot on a burger is apparently staple and a must try. As if a burger wasn’t messy enough already…

6. BREADED MOZZARELLA STICKS

This was a genius suggestion! Molten mozzarella sticks to add another layer of goo and mouth watering crunch.

7. BANANA

This is one fruit that we’d never thought to add to a burger. It could work. Have you ever tried?

8. PEACH

Grilled peach is lovely and fresh in a salad so it could very well add a nice new dimension to a hamburger. Noice.

9. MARSHMALLOW FLUFF
Even by our standards, this seems weird. It was sweet enough when the maple syrup was introduced but marshmallow fluff. Probably the roughest suggestion on this list.

10. PATE

It’s a thing on a Vietnamese Bahn Mi but would it work on a burger? Yes! We could always use more meaty richness.

11. BACONNAISE

Bacon flavoured condiments were one of the best things to come out of the recent century. Bacon jam and baconnaise get all over my burger and all in my belly.

12. PESTO

Add an Italian slant to a bad boy. With some olives and mozzarella you’re really laughing.
