Recipe: Animal Style Fries
Possibly the greatest fast food invention in recent memory. Animal style fries are on the secret menu of In 'n' Out Burger, but now we can all enjoy them at home. Hooray!
For The Sauce
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp american mustard
- 1 tsp cider vinegar
- 4 drops tabasco sauce
- 1 pickled gherkin
For The Onions
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 white onions
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
For The Fries
- 500 g maris piper potatoes
- 1 l vegetable oil for frying
Make The Special Sauce
Mix the mayo, american mustard, ketchup, cider vinegar and tabasco in a bowl until well combined.
Finely dice the gherkin and stir.
Saute The Onions
Heat a large frying pan over a high heat and pour in the vegetable oil.
Slice the onions and add them to the pan with the sugar and the vinegar.
Cook in the hot pan, stirring every few minutes until they’re soft and slightly blackened in places.
Preheat The Oil
Heat a pan of vegetable oil to 180ºC
Fry Your Fries!
Fry the potato batons for 4-5 minutes, until golden brown and soft inside.
Drain on kitchen paper and season well with sea salt.
Assemble Your Dirty Fries
Tip the hot fries into a couple of shallow containers (or plates) and layer over the cheese.
Add the hot onions and top with plenty of sauce.
