Farming our Fish

Salmon is one of the most widely consumed fish in the world, with an astonishing 1 million fresh salmon meals eaten every day in the UK and an additional 1 million smoked salmon meals every week. Recent trends in the food market shows that fresh fish has been the fastest growing source of protein with a huge 64% growth over the last 8 years.

There has also been a huge change in the way that we catch the fish that we eat. Overfishing can be a huge global problem due to improvement in fishing techniques, population growth and the development of large factory-boats that can freeze any catch whilst still out at sea. This has seen the growth of aquaculture (fish farms). This method is far more eco-friendly as unnecessary species are not caught or harmed and it is becoming far more cost effective than traditional fishing methods. Now approximately 50% of the fish on our shelves is farmed rather than caught with traditional unsustainable methods. Nice, huh?

Many people think that fish is relatively expensive, which can be true if you do what most people do and just buy a fillet. So we thought we'd better step in and show you how it’s done SORTED style. By buying a whole side of salmon you can portion it up and get 3 great meals out of it whilst saving some money. We’ve got 3 tasty recipes that are completely different so we guarantee there’s going to be something that you like, even if you’re not a fish lover...

The Recipes...

If you’re out to impress that special someone with your cooking we’ve got a simple Poached Salmon with a Watercress Sauce that looks far more impressive than it actually is. It’s quick, simple and most of all it will satisfy any food critics out there.

Our next creation flips what you would normally expect on its head. We’re mixing a blend of Indian spices with a salmon hash to create something really unique that’s going to keep any grumbling bellies quiet (until next meal time that is).

Finally we have got a light and fresh Salmon and Courgette Linguine. This fresh and light meal is a perfect dish for the summer.
