In the space of just 5 years, SORTEDfood has grown from a small group of friends chatting about food around a pub table to one of the largest and most engaged cooking communities on the internet with over 1.4 million members and over 170 million video views… Not bad for a bunch of idiots, eh?

In 2014 we created a home for this community, launching the world’s first social platform focused around food for web and iOS, which has been picked up and promoted by Apple on numerous occasions, and has its own thriving community too.

Based out of our spacious new studio next to Tower Bridge in London and with our eyes firmly set on world cooking domination, now is the perfect time to expand the small (yet perfectly formed) team who run SORTEDfood to help take it to the next level.

If you have a burning passion for making a difference to how people socialise around food and think you can rock at one of the positions listed below, please drop us an email at iwanttowork@sortedfood.com referencing which position you’d like to apply for.

Graduate-Level Software Developer – REF TECH1

As well as enhancing our existing website and app, we’ll be creating new products that aim to reshape the way the world sees and socialises around food and cooking.

To achieve our goals, we need a bright new in-house developer/engineer on the case…

Your Role

As our main in-house developer, you’ll be working with our CTO and Technical Product Manager to upgrade our current tech as well as to create wonderful new apps and websites for our highly social community. In addition to leading the charge in day-to-day programming, you’ll have a direct steer over the full architecture and implementation of every piece of software we produce.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Breaking down big jobs and broad specifications into quantifiable coding tasks.
  • Taking full responsibility to implement certain tasks whilst delegating others if necessary, based on the time/resources available.
  • Version control, software security/reliability and product testing/maintenance.

Working as a techie at SORTEDfood, you’ll also need to be:

  • Organised and commercially aware.
  • Not easily distracted – seriously, you’ll be sharing an office with the monkeys from the videos! [https://www.youtube.com/sortedfood]
  • Adaptive to different technologies.
  • A proficient Googler – odds are, the answers to all your coding questions are just a search away!

Our Tech

With an iOS app and website, we’re currently using HTML/CSS/PHP/MYSQL, Javascript and Objective C so experience in most/all of this lot would be great.

Also, we’ll be looking to develop new products with Swift, Java, Python w/ Django (or Ruby on Rails if that’s more your thing) and NoSQL databases. Any expertise in these languages would be a big plus!

We’re based in London so you’ll need to live/move nearby and ideally, we’re after a graduate (2:1 or above) in Software Engineering / Computer Science or other similar degree. However if you think you have the skills and the experience / portfolio to back them up, then send us your application in any case!

Self-Shooting Producer/Director – REF PROD1

This multi-skilled role is the perfect opportunity for someone with a few years production experience under their belts who is looking for the next step up.

You will take responsibility for producing (and improving!!) our existing video content streams, plus with scope to work on some new and exciting upcoming projects. This would include managing a small team of camera ops and video editors.

This is a hands on role where you’d be expected to pick up a camera and help out on shoot days, plus editing the occasional video – so proficiency in shooting on DSLRs and editing on Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro are a must-have.
