Today I have a story for you… Are you sitting comfortably? Then we shall begin… (TL;DR at the bottom)
It’s a normal day in the SORTEDfood studio.
There’s laughter from Barry and Hannah sitting at their laptops, Ben and James are in the kitchen cooking up some food for a recipe lab later in the day… And then suddenly, there’s a loud thud followed by an excruciating scream escaping from Josh on the other side of the room.
You turn around to see what the panic is about and see people running towards the source of the noise. Why can’t you see the fridge anymore? Where is it?!
Adrenaline kicks in, you can hear every beat of your heart, getting increasingly louder and faster. Your breaths getting shorter and quicker.
You sprint over, your eyes filling with a strange mist… But this is no time for tears, you need to concentrate… More than ever.
Pushing your way frantically through the gathering crowd, you arrive at the space where the fridge used to be… It’s empty… You look down to find your oblong-shaped friend. It’s bad. No, worse than bad. It’s terrible. Far worse than you could ever have imagined. There’s cold food everywhere and shelves strewn across the floor.
It’s a ‘chilling’ sight.
You stand there for a second, ‘frozen’ with shock… and then instinct takes over.
You shout at people to move back and give you some room to work with, you ask Katie to make a phone call – get some help!
Your attention turns to the matter at hand… It’ll be a while before help arrives, what can you do to minimise the impact?
You tell Ben to get a broom and then, trying hard to remain calm, you nervously extend a trembling hand and wipe away some of the sticky red liquid seeping out… But within seconds it’s replaced with far more… You lick your hand and taste the bitter sweet ketchup as you think “What are we going to do?”…
Mike gently whispers “it’ll be fine,” before Abbie drags you out of the way… Help has finally arrived. Within just a few tear-filled blinks, a trolley/stretcher is loaded up with various fridge parts and heading out of the door… Everything’s a blur.
And then a sudden eerie calm surrounds the studio… The silence is deafening and no one knows what to do.
You just stand there staring blankly into the abyss, into the space filled with so many memories from the last few years… Will you be able to make any more memories? You put it to the back of your mind… You need to think positively, if not for you then for the sake of the rest of the team. “It’ll be fine” you keep repeating to yourself…
FridgeCam has been a part of us every Sunday for the last 4.5 years, ever since this incredibly terrible, awful video. We’re not ready to say goodbye… In fact, it’s ONLY the beginning of our plans for FridgeCam.
This crisis is a good thing… A chance to refresh, to come back stronger than ever before, to spend time preparing to take over the world with FridgeCam.
Fortunately, we have contingency plans… A load of videos are already filmed and FridgeCam’s little brother (Mini-Fridge) is ready to go back on the road and film some stuff outside of the studio.
We’re going to spend the next few weeks caring for FridgeCam, patting it’s door with a moist flannel and holding its handles lovingly.
Of course, this is going to take a lot of our time, so there’s a chance we will only get 2 videos out a week… Probably on a Wednesday and a Sunday.
I know it’s hard… But together we’ll get through it and come out the other side stronger. *Wipes a tear from eye and looks up at the sky, boldly, defiantly*… SORRY I’LL STOP NOW!
– Jamie wrote a fantastically imaginative story about how FridgeCam has been seriously injured and will be in intensive care for the next few weeks but will come back stronger than ever before so you should probably get really excited.
– We’re putting all our efforts into making FridgeCam the best it can be and are going to move to a WEDNESDAY & SUNDAY video release on YouTube to make this happen so don’t get really really mad OK?
– Keep an eye out on sortedfood.com, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram for a brand new FridgeCam launch date! We still have heaps of recipes coming out and some exciting live sessions planned.
