Stay healthy and happy during Ramadan…
So this month is Ramadan and we have had so many requests from the SORTEDfood community for super filling recipes to keep hunger at bay.
When it comes to staying fuller for longer you need meals and snacks stacked full of carbs and protein to keep you going till the sun goes down. Here are some recipes and tips to help keep you happy and healthy.
It’s all about carbs at Suhoor
Complex carbohydrates like wheat, oats, barley, and lentils are great to fill yourself up. Plus they all super slow to release energy so will keep you going throughout the day. If you’ve got the time, give these pancakes a try, full of oats and topped with delicious fruit.
How about making some cereal bars or Breakfast Muffins in advance. That way you know you’ll get something filling for breakfast.
Or if you’re really pressed for time, try making a Smoothie the night before. Remember to pack it full of fruit, oats and maybe some almond butter for a little extra sweetness.
When it comes to Iftar, pick meals with lots of protein. You want a meal that will keep you super satisfied! Have a go at Roast Chicken, Lentils and Kale for a healthy yet super filling evening meal.
Avoid processed foods
As tempting as it is to eat all the delicious fried chicken you can get your hands on… Stop, take a deep breath and think about the what will make you feel your best tomorrow. You’re doing yourself any favours eating foods that a high in fat and lacking in nutrients.
Avoid food that is really high in sugar
The thing about sugar is, it tastes amazing and you feel great, at the time. Not long after you’ll crash. The last thing you need when you’re fasting is a sudden drop in energy levels.
Vitamins and minerals
The best way to keep healthy during Ramadan is to make sure when you do eat, it’s foods that are packed full of minerals, vitamins, fruit and veg. Give yourself the best chance to stay on great form.
Don’t forget to stay hydrated!
Last but definitely not least, be sure to stay hydrated! Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and rehydration drinks to keep yourself hydrated.
