On today’s menu…

Hello, I’m Barry Lewis from My Virgin Kitchen.

My YouTube channel was given that name as I used to be a ‘virgin in the kitchen’ I couldn’t cook a thing so picked up a camera and started to learn uploading videos around my job. Cooking has turned from a fear to a career & I now make fun food related videos 3 times per week.

My love of cooking all started when…

I’ve always enjoyed eating food (hence my chiselled figure), but my love of cooking really started after a Year of MVK when my confidence picked up trying new things. I like the variety in the World of food, I am learning something new everyday whether it’s a new technique or tasting some crazy ingredient from a different continent!

My cooking style is…

I love making homemade pasta and had no idea how easy it was to do, my cooking style is definitely no fuss tasty dishes you can chuck together, I’m also quite partial to Mexican food and would love to head out that way someday for some proper authentic stuff!

My desert Island dish would be…

I nearly always order a spaghetti meatball from any Italian restaurant I go to, it’s such a simple dish really but love all the variations of sauces different restaurants do, so I’d definitely live off that on a desert island for sure.

My favourite food blog…

I don’t really have time to follow many other blogs, but I watch the Sorted boys when I can and there used to be a YouTuber who sadly passed away called Clara who taught simple recipes on the Great Depression, she was so sweet.

My most embarrassing food moment was…

Making a healthy cooked breakfast recipe, where it’s all cooked under the grill. Had my camera in one hand and the grill loaded with ingredients in the other, handle snaps, food everywhere on the floor. Guess that’s what made it healthy eh!

My best ever food moment was…

Meeting celebrity chefs like Jamie Oliver & Gordon Ramsay has been pretty cool and nearly getting run over by Lorraine Pascale in London was a claim to fame for sure. My favourite food moment(s) are when I make giant foods with my mate James, we never quite know if they are going to work.

My top hack…

Well my top tip would be to always keep your knife sharp, you can really tell the difference and it’s safe too! My favourite hack is a way that makes me drink more water (I am trying to get off fizzy drinks completely), dump your favourite fruit into ice cube trays with some water and set, then plonk in your water when needed for nice flavoured water.

My one and only gadget would have to be…

Spatula, I am obsessed with silicone spatulas, I know that sounds weird, but I love the things!

Would you rather…

Only cook with an oven OR only cook on a stove?

Oven baby

Eat cake covered in gravy OR eat stew covered in icing?

I don’t know, but that is a good video idea, will let you know.
