Christmas Brunch & 8 Other Festive Party Ideas

Mulled wine

Christmas is the time for getting together with friends and family to get a little on the jolly side. Have you ever hosted a party? Maybe you’re thinking about it? Holy moly it’s expensive! It’s stressful! It’s messy! It’s not worth the effort! So you think anyway…

Christmas get togethers don’t need to be an extravagant knees up. In fact, sometimes around Christmas, something low key can even be nicer. You don’t have to witness any terrible dance moves and it’s a time to escape from the crowds, to stop freaking out about presents and what you’re wearing to the office party.

So we’ve got a list for you. We love lists. Of festive party ideas where you don’t need large sums of money and a big space to have FUN! You can also show off your cooking skills, but only if you want to…

1. Christmas Brunch

Everyone seems to have plans on the eight Friday and Saturday nights before Christmas. Trying to fit in a plan is a nightmare. But what about Sundays? They’re are massively underrated! Brunch could be the perfect answer. Invite everyone over early afternoon, make some jugs full of bucks fizz and get in some salty snacks to help friends and family get over their stonking hangovers.

2. Games Night

For some people Christmas just isn’t Christmas without an argumentative round of Articulate/ Monopoly or Scrabble. Make an occasion of it! Borrow a game of someone and get your squad together at someone’s house or at a local pub.

3. Mulled Wine & Mince Pies

A large vat of mulled wine can be a cheap way to entertain people. A bottle of wine, 500 ml orange juice, a dribble of brandy, 1 cinnamon stick and a pinch of mixed spice can serve 10 people a steaming cup of the good stuff.

4. Movie Marathon

Top Christmas movies of all time? Tricky. What do you reckon? Love Actually, Home Alone, The Holiday, Elf, The Polar Express, It’s A Wonderful Life, The Grinch… It’s a never ending list! Tell guests to bring popcorn and some pyjamas. Get cosy.

5. Market Outing

European style Christmas markets are popping up all over the shop. Wrap up warm and scout one out to enjoy festive treats and yumminess out in the cold. Take note, this is the ideal date scenario too.

6. Pot Luck Dinner Party

If you’re doing Secret Santa with mates this year, this can be a great addition to plans. Tell everyone to bring one dish of their choice. A starter, main or pudding. Whatever turns up at the dinner party is what you’ll be eating. Expect hilarious consequences.

7. Christmas Tree Crawl

Head to your local big city and find the best Christmas trees it has to offer in shopping centres, department stores and touristy squares. Get a photo next to each one and stop off for a drink! If that doesn’t make you feel in the mood, we don’t know what will.

8. Festive Scavenger Hunt

Get your friends together and put them into teams. Give them a list of challenges, set a time limit and weight each one with points. For example: Get a picture with a Santa could be 10 points whereas have a stein of beer could be 5!

Have you got any other brilliant party ideas? There’s always the classic fancy dress option too if you’re looking to jazz things up. But at the end of the day, all you really need is great company and banging Christmas tunes!
