Right guys, we’ve still got a few cheeky weeks of Summer left. I’m not saying you should totally panic and have a BBQ every day of the week BUT if you do find yourself invited to a small, unkempt patch of grass with a select group of friends next weekend, you’re going to need to know what to take.
Don’t be the guy that turns up with sausages and burgers. As much as you think you’re helping, you’re not. If someone is hosting a BBQ they’re going to have sausages and burgers and if they don’t, frankly, you’ve got bigger issues.
So, now is the time to make sure that when you turn up to the shindig people will know that the party can really start. They’ll be all like, ‘Oh hey! Look at that really cool person that just arrived with all the cool stuff.’ See, you’ll be the cool one.
First off, drinks!
We got a bit over excited the other day and bailed on the whole food thing and got the drinks in. Next time you go to a BBQ, turn up with a ridiculous (and ideally comically oversized) pitcher of this bad boy. Aperol Spritz is making a comeback (according to Ben…) so if you want to be the trendiest hipster round the fire pit, this is what you need. (Other great cocktails are available here and here.)
Now, time for sides…
It’s a well-known fact that everything is better with mayonnaise. If there aren’t at least 3 side dishes at the BBQ totally covered in mayo then you’re doing it all wrong. As much as we are fans of the whole meat is life thing, meat with sides is better. If you’re not sure of the vibe, make a potato salad. No one on this earth ever regretted making a potato salad.
Fancy a dip?
People never think of dessert when they go to a BBQ. There are so many options of delightful desserts you can take along to your gathering. Obviously, probs best to avoid anything that will melt… now is not the time to show off your new popsicles that you copied off Pinterest. Do take something fruity though. You mates are going to want something fresh and fruity after all that delicious meat and mayo… Check out Barry’s Mojito Fruit Salad Recipe, it’s so easy it’s not really a recipe at all… Perfect for a BBQ really. Don’t waste time making something fancy, get outside and soak up the last few rays of the Summer.
Also – Take giant marshmallows. There’s no recipe here, that’s just a bit of bonus advice.
